Cultural geography encompasses things such as language, food,
religion and etc. in class we learned about 2 of the 5 major religions.
One of these religions
was Christianity. There are about 2.2 billion adherents. Some of these denominations
include Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, protestant, and etc. The
founder of Catholicism was Jesus Christ and the holy book is the Bible/ New Testament.
They believe Jesus is the son of God and he died, was crucified, and then resurrected.
The clergy is the Pope and local priests.
The religion of Islam
was the second religion we learned about. The number of adherents is about 1.5
billion. They are located mainly in the Middle East, Indonesia, and North
Africa. The denominations include Sunnis (75-90%) and Shiites (10-20%). The founder
was Muhammad (570-632). Their holy book was Qur’an. They believe in one god,
Allah, and the 5 pillars, testimony, prayer, alm -giving, fasting, and
pilgrimage.
An important question
that came up today was how does one prove the existence of God? This made me
start thinking because you know the thing is you simply cannot. All you have to
do is believe. Not all things have to be proven to believe in them. I think
people have to understand that logic is not always part of belief, simply trust
in what you want to believe in.
