Kenya

Now that we have talked about India and Japan, let’s talk about Kenya. Kenya is a sub- Saharan African nation. A Sub- Saharan nation is south of the Saharan Desert.
The total fertility rate in these African nations is 6. Due to this high fertility rate the population in Kenya is expected to triple by 2050.

We learned that in Kenya there is a high rate of death. This is caused by HIV/AIDS. 6-9% of all Kenyans are infected with HIV/AIDS. Due to HIV/AIDS most Kenyans die between the ages 49 and 65.

Kiva.org

What is Kiva.org? What is the big deal about? Why should I donate $25? The answer is simple. Kiva is a non-profit organization that wants to connect people who are going through poverty. All you simply have to do is find someone in need, donate $25, and then get repaid your $25’s back.
Some of the people who get involved in Kiva include people like Angeles, from the Philippines. She is 43 years old and she is trying to gain money for products she can sell. These products will aid in getting her 6 children to college. She has been in this business for 10 years. She sells things such as coffee, bread, candies, soft drinks, noodles, and even shampoo.
You can also donate to help struggling youth. For example, Zeinab, in Lebanon. She is a 29 year old married woman. She would like to raise $575 dollars to pay her children’s educational fees. Since her husband is the main incomer of money, she needs to work hard to help her family.

You can help so many people, and then you can keep donating with the money you earn back. Kiva.org helps you contribute to those who are less fortunate.

We Need More Babies?

I know yesterday I was complain about woman’s’ rights in India, but let me tell you, Japan has got it together. They have themselves together so much, they are having fewer children. This small amount of children is leading to only one kid per grade level. Imaging paying attention in class all your life…
Woman in Japan are so focused on their career, they don’t even give having children a second thought. The fertility rate in Japan is 1.4. Now that is EXTREMELY low. Woman only really want their children when they are like 30. This is a better age then getting pregnant at 16 *cough Americans cough* but it is still a pretty late in life. Japans population pyramid basically looks like India’s, but upside-down.

Womans Rights

Woman rights in India is a HUGE issue. They are simply considered a liability. Their parents are basically trying their best to get rid of them.
Woman have no say in any of their life choices, like how many children they will have to who they will marry. They get married from 13 and up. I don’t think arranged marriages are right, get married to who you want, not who you are paid off to. I think that if those who are setting up arranged marriage could understand how wrong that is, they would stop.
If woman don’t have babies, there are huge consequences. 25,000 woman are killed because of baby disputes or dowry arguments. They would be burned or killed simply if they can’t have a boy. Is this not the fathers fault? Why is the woman to blame?
The extent these people go to have the correct gender baby IS INSANE. Sometimes they will drown a baby fresh out of the womb because they don’t want it.

Woman need higher social roles because we are HALF of the generation so treat them like human beings.

World in Balance, the People Paradox

I thought the world population was growing, a lot. Apparently not, we are shrinking. Russia will lose 20%, Europe 6 million people, and japan will lose half of their population. That’s crazy right? Elders over 60 will soon out number children under 4. Older people need more health care, but without younger children doctors will decrease.
Immigrants can be helpful in this case. They come and do jobs that are not currently occupied. The population of the United States would be dropping if it were not for immigrants.
Some there will be a huge, huge population boom, which is crazy. The largest generation of youth in human history is entering reproductive years.

India is going crazy with babies!!! Seriously, one woman named Goody almost died during childbirth, FOR HER 8TH CHILD! She doesn’t even have a say in how many she has. That’s just unfair, it’s her body let her do what she wants. They will keep going until Goody has another boy. SHE IS GOING TO DIE LIKE SERIOUSLY STOP THIS!!!! She had 8 kids, yet three of them died. Get it together India, your mothers will die before your children grow up!

Test Talk 2.75

First of all TGIF, or at least that’s what I thought yesterday. Let me tell you it has been a looooooooonnnnggggggggg week. Nevertheless, let’s continue to the actual class blog.

Today in class we talked about our tests more. Mr. Schick gave us some multiple choice tips. You should cover the answers of the question before answering them. I personally don’t think that would be effective for me because I always need to see words to refresh my meory.next time I take a Mr. Schick test I will be sure to study all of the material beforehand.

Test Talk 2.5

Today we spent class talking about Kiva and the recent test.
I think the test was okay and there was not a lot of argument this time around. I will have to study more for the next test, as I have said for the last couple tests. I personally need a lot more reminder for tests or I won’t study, whoops.

The new Kiva extra credit project is slightly confusing to me. Maybe just the grading points. Do the points go to the total grade or the class work grade?

Where Would I Live ?

Ifitweremyhome.com is a website that shows you what it would be like if you were born in a different country. It was our task to choose a country and compare their life to that of a US citizen.
My first choice of country was Angola, mainly because it sounds like my name. By what I have seen so far Angola is NOT looking very bright. If I were to live in Angola I would earn 88.07% less money. The GDP in Angola is $6,300 whereas the GPD in America is $52,800. I would rather live in a world where I get more money. I would probably die sooner also. The life expectancy in Angola is 55.29. If this were the life expectancy in America I would be terrified because I would lose a LOT of people who I care about. I think the scariest part is I would be 2.8 times more likely to die by murder. I think that is so crazy knowing how many people are already dying in the US.
Now, onto my second topic. I have chosen Monaco, because that’s where all of the rich people go. In contrast to Angola, Monaco is looking bright. In Monaco I will most likely have a job because Monaco have an unemployment rate of 2% whereas the US has an unemployment rate of 7.30. I would also make a lot more money. Monaco’s GDP is $85,500 while America’s GDP is $52,800.And best of all, you would live 10 years longer! Who doesn’t want to live longer? There’s less of a scare that you have to say goodbye to your loved ones so quickly! So far Monaco is definitely winning.
Finally I looked at Madagascar. I only chose Madagascar because I enjoyed the movie, but that’s beside the point. There are three possibly positive and negative things to keep in mind. 99.8% less money on health care, which make you think if they actually had healthcare. 99.61% less electricity, which personally scares me because I don’t think I could live without my phone. And finally 98.65% less oil. This is great because you won’t be one of the world leading polluters but that also means less cars and more walking *cringes on the inside*.

If you had to go anywhere in the world DEFINIETLY GO TO MONACO.

Human Geo Test no. 2

Now today we took our second test. I do have to say, that was the least prepared I have ever been for a test. You see I’m not going to lie to you, I did not study. But the truth is I that I did not have any time. I haven’t even been home this week to see my dog. I am having dog separation issues over here. This. Is. A. serious. Problem.

I do think that I did pretty great on the CIA world fact book portion of the test though. I really love the sense of achievement I earned when I finish a full 2 minutes early. Overall, I REALLY don’t like the whole times aspect. Like I said in my last blog, I COULD HAVE HAD A HEART ATTACK! Do you want me to die? Don’t answer that… now all there is to do is pray and wait for my grade.

PSAT and Test STRESS

PSAT’s are tomorrow and I am not excited. I won’t die, I’m just not happy. At. All. I’m even angrier about the human geography test after that.
Why?! Why do you only give us a minute to look up something on the internet? I can even type a paragraph in one minute. How do you expect me to scroll up and down a website page if my eyes don’t even move that fast?! If I have a heart attack during this test my ghost will come back and haunt you Mr. Schick. BEWARE! Seriously though I’m going to faint or something. One minute is not a good, suitable amount of time.

I’m just going to warn you again. My ghost WILL find you. I hope you are scared.

Poverty and Hunger

Did you know the United States poverty line is at $11,770? That’s just crazy. Think about everything you need to buy. Taxes, groceries, cell phone bills, cars, electric bills, and clothes. Imagine living like this. I know it sounds a little bit snotty, but how do these people get by? Well, they can’t and I think that that is absolutely crazy.
What are the indicators of poverty and hunger?
1. Food- body mass index above 16
2. Safe drinking water- not from rivers and ponds, close by
3. Sanitation facilities- accessible toilets
4. Health- for those who are sick and those who are pregnant
5. Shelter- less than 4 people per room
6. Education- schooling or learning to read
7. Information- TVs and telephones in the house to learn information
8. access to services

CIA World Fact Book

Dear CIA world fact book,
Mr. Schick is your BIGGEST fan.
No, but seriously I can tell why he loves this site! It’s like this crazy, all knowing website. Well, it doesn’t know everything, but it might as well. It knows all about things like oil consumption, ethnic groups, religion, population growth and even infant mortality rate. For example, did you know that the United States, China, and India are the lead importers of oil in the world?

Speaking of which, we need to stop with the plastic craze. I don’t think people really think about what will happen if we don’t think about the consequences of our actions now. One day all of the oil we use will be gone. All of our plastic chairs, most of our computer parts. What will we do then? I may be dead sooo, it’s not my problem to deal with but, it will become a problem, a very serious problem.

Immigration , Emigration, and Babies

Immigration and emigration, what is it? Well, immigration is entering a country, and emigration is leaving. Net Migration Rate is the difference between the number of people leaving and entering a country.
I think that immigration into America is fine. It may not be fair, but that sucks because life isn’t fair. I believe everyone deserves a new being. Do we REALLY need a wall, I think that’s a little drastic.
There are two main forces that lead to migration. The push factors make people leave. These include, civil war, environmental degradation, unemployment, and religious/ethnic persecution. The pull forces make people want to go somewhere. Some of these are better economy, better health services, more religious freedom, and more political freedom.

Okay readers, it’s time to have the talk… NOT THAT TALK, we’re going to talk about total fertility rate. Total fertility rate, also known as TFR, is the average number of children born per women. The TFR must remain 2.1 for a population to remain the same. It is 2.1 because some woman and men don’t reach the age to have children. If the rate is higher than 2.1 the pop. goes up, but if it’s lower the population will go down.

Rates Rates Rates

Well, it’s bound to happen. We will all die. It’s just when that’s the question. Well, we all cant live till 93 like the average in Monaco, stupid rich people, but hey, at least I’ll live longer the most guys
I personally believe that girls live longer then guys because guys are downright stupid, and girls are better. But, seriously guys make a lot of bad decisions. Why do guys get all of the hard, dangerous jobs when girls are more sensible? And I mean if we are talking muscle, HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE FEMALE BODY BUILDERS?! They are scary man.
We also talked about a lot of rates, which were confusing because there are so many:
Crude birth rate: number of births per 1000 of the pop.
Crude death rate: number of deaths per 1000 of the pop.
Rate of Natural Increase (RNI): deaths-births, gives the annual natural growth rate
·        DON’T FORGET IMMIGRATION

(Well, I was wrong there are only three)

America. Is. Crazy.

People are crazy. I think everyone can agree from that simple 3 word, 14 letter, statement. People from America are especially crazy. Like who do we think we are running around with gun rights, shooting up colleges?
Seriously that’s just abusing your privileges. It like you mom saying, “Yeah, you can have a cookie”. Now, if you take ten cookies, she will get mad. Your mother will take away your cookie privileges. JUST DON’T TAKE TO MANY COOKIES! If you want guns for protection, don’t take them for granted.
It’s bad when someone is shooting colleges, but does it really have to get as crazy as kindergartners? What have these kids ever done to you? What could possibly go through someone’s sick, cruel mind when thy wake up in the morning and go, “Yeah, that’s what I’m going to do today”. MOST PEOPLE JUST GET GROCERIES BUT YOU, CRAZY PERSON, DECIDES TO SHOOT UP AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!

And if you think about it, that’s only one of the many things that’s wrong with America, and that. Is. Crazy.

World Growth

Well today I found out that I HATE pop quizzes. I never had them in middle school, and this one really sucked. The pressure of the test plus the fact that ROBBIES HEAD IS NOT SEE THROUGH DID NOT HELP. I basically had to contort to see the screen.
Other than taking that darn pop quiz, we also looked at the pros and cons of globalization.
    PROS
1. Globalization is the logical and natural expression of capitalism
2. The new wealth will spread from rich to poor
3. Each country can produce whatever they need to produce
CONS
1. It’s just not working
a. The rich are getting richer
b. The poor are getting poorer
      2. it’s not fair
      3. The world’s economic system is very unstable

Fun fact. There are a heck of a lot of people in the world right now. There are over 7 billion people. 90% of pop. Growth is in places that people can afford to survive, aka the poorest countries of the world.
